A Vancouver man was seriously injured Monday morning after he rear-ended a vehicle while riding his motorcycle.

The crash was reported at 7:14 a.m. Monday at MacArthur Boulevard and Morrison Road in the Vancouver Heights area. Witnesses told police that a Ford Escape was traveling on Morrison Road, attempting to cross MacArthur Boulevard, when it was struck by a motorcycle traveling well above the speed limit, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

The motorcyclist, Daniel A. Pittman, 34, was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in serious condition. Hospital staff said Tuesday that he was in satisfactory condition. The driver of the Escape, Laurie Kohler, 62, of Vancouver, was not injured.

The police department’s traffic unit is investigating what happened. Extreme speed was a factor in the crash, Kapp said.
