COMMUNITY COLLEGE JOURNALISM AWARDS

Clark College student journalists captured all three top awards in a competition for the best in news reporting, editing and production by teams at 13 community colleges in Oregon and Washington. The May contest was sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism Educators.

The student journalists produce The Independent under the direction of Dee Anne Finken, adviser.

Independent staff overall

First place, general excellence; Publications sweeps, the most first-, second- and third-place finishes in 21 categories.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARDS

The Washington Association of School Administrators presented the Community Leadership Awards to individuals and groups in recognition of their contributions to education. Awards were given at a ceremony on May 22. The local recipients were:
