TEMPE, Ariz. — Joseph Young shook off a poor shooting night to hit a jumper with 25.6 seconds left in overtime to give Oregon a 68-67 victory over Arizona State on Friday night.
Young was 3 of 11 from the field before his mid-range jumper gave him 14 points. Elgin Cook added 22 points as the Ducks (15-7, 5-4) bounced back from their worst loss of the season two days earlier at Arizona.
Shaquielle McKissic scored a career-high 24 points, including an off-balance, 24-footer with 1.2 seconds left in regulation to tie it for Arizona State. But McKissic lost the ball on the Sun Devils’ final possession, which ended on Bo Barnes’ desperation 3-point heave at the buzzer that was an air ball.
Tara Holder added 16 points for Arizona State (11-11, 3-6), which had won four of five.
McKissic blocked Cook’s shot in the lane with under a minute left in overtime and Oregon leading 66-65. McKissic’s driving layup on the ensuing possession put Arizona State ahead, but Young answered with the game’s final basket.
McKissic bailed out Arizona State at the end of regulation with his tying shot from the left wing after a play broke down. The sixth-year senior hit 6 of 10 3-pointers and added five rebounds, but couldn’t keep Arizona State from being swept in the season series.
While Arizona State missed numerous chances to take the lead in regulation thanks to its 7 of 15 free-throw shooting, Oregon’s Ahmaad Rorie missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 14 seconds left to set up McKissic’s tying hoop.
Cook, who had hit three 3-pointers all season, drained a 3 as the shot clock was winding down with 2:59 left put Oregon ahead 58-56. But the Ducks didn’t get another field goal in regulation.
Coming off a 90-56 loss at Arizona on Wednesday the worst loss in coach Dana Altman’s five seasons the Ducks went without a true point guard in the starting lineup.
Dillon Brooks replaced Rorie, giving Oregon a bigger look with four forwards. And the Ducks dominated inside early.
Thanks to two impressive dunks from Cook, Oregon built a 10-point lead despite Young being held scoreless for the first 16 minutes.
The rare Friday night Pac-12 game scheduled because the Phoenix area is hosting the Super Bowl on Sunday got off to a rough start for the home team.
Arizona State committed nine first-half turnovers against Oregon’s zone, including a palming, double dribble and 3-second violation. But the Sun Devils got within 34-29 on Holder’s runner just before the halftime buzzer.
McKissic then started the second half with three consecutive 3s, the last put Arizona State ahead 43-41 as it was Oregon’s turn to get sloppy with the ball.
The lead changed hands 11 times after that in a rematch of a game won by host Oregon three weeks ago, 59-56.

Oregon: Jordan Bell had two blocks to give him 71, adding to the school single season record. . Bell avoided a flagrant foul early when he shoved Holder to the floor. . Freshman Casey Benson had a point and an assist in his return to his hometown. Benson led Corona del Sol, eight miles from Wells Fargo Arena, to three high school state titles.
Arizona State: Roosevelt Scott and Connor MacDougall, suspended for the past three games for violating team rules, were reinstated but didn’t play. . Coach Herb Sendek tweaked the starting lineup, with Gilling replacing the struggling Savon Goodman.
