SEATTLE — Musician and Seahawks fan Dave Matthews raised the 12th man flag Thursday on top of the Seattle Space Needle as the city rallies for its team in the Super Bowl.
The new 25-by-35-foot blue flag with the white number 12 will fly through Sunday when Seattle takes on the Patriots at the NFL championship game in Arizona.
The old 12th man flag that flew over the Space Needle for the NFC title game was in tatters after heavy winds. Matthews signed that flag, which will be signed by others around the city and presented to the team.
Asked what would be the most appropriate Dave Mathews Band song for the Super Bowl, he said either “Halloween,” which has a lot of shrieking, or “Crash Into Me,” a love song.
