Battle Ground — Second Chance Companions recently donated 27 pet oxygen masks to area fire departments.

The masks contain three different sizes for dogs and cats. They were delivered to fire stations in Camas, Washougal, Vancouver, Brush Prairie, Battle Ground, Yacolt, Amboy, Ridgefield, LaCenter and Woodland.

The Battle Ground-based nonprofit purchased the masks thanks to an endowment from the estate of Susan Ann Baynton, a donation initiated by longtime volunteer Susan Friend, according to Susan Ritenburgh, treasurer and cat foster with Second Chance Companions.
