Bonnie Carter, an administrative secretary at Skyridge Middle School, will replace longtime Camas City Councilor Linda Dietzman next month.

The council selected Carter for the job in a 4-2 vote at a special meeting Monday night. Carter picked up votes from councilors Greg Anderson, Tim Hazen, Steve Hogan and Shannon Turk.

Councilors Melissa Smith and Don Chaney instead voted for Randy Curtis, a member of the city’s parks and recreation commission. Dietzman was excused from the meeting.

The council held interviews with Carter, Curtis and two other candidates before casting their votes.

Carter, 45, has lived in Camas since 2002. Outside her job, she’s an active volunteer in the Camas School District.

Last summer, Family Circle magazine featured Carter in an article naming Camas among the country’s 10 best towns for families.

Jan. 31 marks Dietzman’s last day on the council after 11 years in the position. Carter will serve the rest of Dietzman’s term through Dec. 7. The seat will go up for election again in November.
