Solid late-game defense lifted Hudson’s Bay to its first Class 2A Greater St. Helens League win. A 25-15 second-half advantage made the difference.

“We picked up our defensive intensity,” Hudson’s Bay coach Nancy Boone said.

Kim Nguyen scored 20 points to lead the Eagles. She scored all 11 Hudson’s Bay points in the second quarter, when Ridgefield opened up a five-point lead.

Ariel Rutherford added 10 points for the Eagles, four of them in the decisive fourth quarter.

Bailey Hooghkirk scored 19 points for Ridgefield, but Boone said her team played tough man-to-man defense late in the game. Another key according to Boone was that her team only turned over the ball 13 times. The Eagles have had more than 40 turnovers in several games this season.

Both teams are 2-15 overall and 1-8 in league play after splitting two games.
