Investigators haven’t determined the cause of a week-ago fire that severely damaged a vacant house in Vancouver’s Truman neighborhood. The fire destroyed possible evidence, said Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Richard Martin.

Nobody was believed to be inside when the fire was reported by a passer-by at 8:43 p.m. Jan. 16. Martin said the house at 4701 N.E. 40th Ave. had been foreclosed and vacant for several years. Transients were known to stay there occasionally, and small fires had been started inside the house before, he said.

The house was considered a total loss that resulted in an estimated $100,000 damage. The investigation into what sparked the fire is ongoing.
