Ridgefield — Amelia Earhart was spotted recently at South Ridge Elementary School.
Ditto other historical luminaries, including Abraham Lincoln, Anne Frank, Albert Einstein, Queen Victoria and Cleopatra, the last pharaoh of Egypt.
All sixth graders at South Ridge worked on intensive biography projects that involved researching the lives and writing diaries “by” their subjects; that was followed by costumed presentations.
Sixth grade teacher Cheryl Shaw said the project “allows students to engage in an intensive creative writing piece, which they don’t always have the opportunity to do during school.”
Jaelyn Sotelo said researching Anne Frank, the Jewish girl who wrote her famous diary while hiding from the Nazis during World War II, was inspiring. “This project was a great way to learn about history and how different people make an impact on how we live in society.”
