Police captured a man suspected of ransacking a house Tuesday afternoon in east Vancouver.

The homeowner reported the burglary at his house in the 17000 block of Northeast 34th Street around 1:30 p.m. He told 911 that he came home to find suitcases in his front yard and saw a man in his house who appeared to be changing clothes, according to Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

There was possibly an altercation between the homeowner and burglar, before the burglar ran away. The home had been thoroughly ransacked, Kapp said.

While police searched for the burglar, Fishers Landing Elementary was placed on a modified lockdown for seven minutes, said Evergreen School District Gail Spolar. The suspect was running through backyards and jumping fences in the Fisher’s Landing area. Police tracked him down and used a Taser on him to subdue him, Kapp said.

He was taken into custody and transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center before being booked into the Clark County Jail. His name was not released by police Tuesday.
