Salmon Creek — A little more than three years ago, Desiree Hellegers, an associate professor of English at Washington State University Vancouver, published a book, and now she is turning her work into a play.
Her book, “No Room of Her Own: Women’s Stories of Homelessness, Life, Death and Resistance,” chronicled the lives of homeless women in Seattle, using years of interviews with 15 women who were homeless.
Hellegers, in collaboration with Circle Theater Project, will stage two readings of the play at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The readings are part of Portland’s Fertile Ground Festival of New Plays, and will take place at Copeland Commons at Tabor Space, 5441 S.E. Belmont St., Portland.
