The Columbia River Chieftans survived a late rally from Fort Vancouver as they defeated trappers.
With the victory, the Chieftans have sole possession of first place in the 3A Greater St. Helens league.
River’s Joey Bean scored 22 points with 10 of those coming in the crucial fourth quarter when Fort was rallying.
River’s Chad Pedigo fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter, forcing Chieftans head coach David Long to go small.
While they didn’t have Pedigo, freshman Jacob Hjort helped the Chieftans in a huge way. He hit a 3-pointer when Fort pulled within one point in the fourth quarter before hitting another one later in the quarter.
Malachi King led Fort with 14 points.
River’s Nathan Hawthorne also played a major role in the win with 14 points. 8 of his 14 came in the crucial 2nd quarter where River built their lead. According to Long it was his best game of the season.
