SEATTLE — Mike Anderson scored all 11 of his points in the second half, Andrew Andrews added 12 off the bench, and Washington snapped a four-game losing streak with a 56-43 win over Oregon State on Thursday night.
After an ugly first half, Anderson came up big in the second half as the Huskies (12-4, 1-3 Pac-12) avoided starting Pac-12 Conference play 0-4. Anderson knocked down a trio of 3-pointers, and his last with 2:50 remaining gave Washington a 49-41 lead.
Robert Upshaw added 12 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks for Washington.
Malcolm Duvivier and Jarmal Reid led Oregon State (11-5, 2-2) with 10 points each, but the Beavers were unable to build on last Sunday’s upset of Arizona.
The matchup featured Washington’s Shawn Kemp Jr. and Oregon State’s Gary Payton II meeting on the court for the first time in college, with their famous fathers watching from the stands. The elder Payton started the game watching behind the Oregon State bench before joining the elder Kemp courtside as the former Seattle SuperSonics teammates watched their sons meet.
The parents spent most of halftime signing autographs and posing for pictures, a distraction from the ugly first half on the floor. Payton, Oregon State’s leading scorer, finished with just four points, while Kemp had eight points.
Both teams had scoring droughts of more than 8 minutes in the first half. They combined for 14 made field goals and 16 turnovers. Washington went more than 9 minutes without scoring until Kemp’s basket at the rim with 1:14 left in the half. Andrews added a pair of free throws in the final minute and Washington held a 19-15 lead at halftime.
Washington finally created separation midway through the second half behind a 10-2 run. After falling behind 27-26, two free throws from Kemp put the Huskies back in front. Andrews and Anderson sandwiched 3-pointers around a layup by Nigel Williams-Goss and quickly the Huskies took a 36-29 lead, their largest of the game to that point.
Oregon State pulled within 42-37, but consecutive 3-pointers by Andrews and Anderson and free throws by Andrews pushed the Huskies lead to 10 with 2 minutes left.
Both teams were short-handed. Washington forward Jenard Jarreau suffered a knee injury last Saturday against Washington State. Jarreau was averaging 5.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Oregon State was without top reserve Victor Robbins, who was suspended for 10 games for a violation of athletic department policy. Robbins was averaging 10.3 points off the bench for the Beavers.

Oregon State: Gary Payton II’s lone field goal was memorable, driving baseline in the second half and dunking over Andrew Andrews. Payton had eight rebounds and four blocks.
Washington: Jenard Jarreau will have surgery on his right knee Friday and is expected to miss at least 4-to-6 weeks. Jarreau participated in practice early in the week before realizing there was a problem. Jarreau tore the ACL in the same knee last year.
