Acting County Manager Mark McCauley has designated Bob Stevens as the county’s first deputy county manager.

Appointing a deputy county manager is a requirement under the home-rule charter that voters approved in November. The charter states that the county manager must appoint a deputy to serve in his or her absence.

Stevens has worked for the county since 2001, and served as budget manager since 2013. Stevens will also direct the county’s general services department, according to the county.

McCauley led the general services department before he became county administrator in 2013.

He became acting county manager on Jan. 1, when the charter form of government began to take effect.

Among other changes, the charter will convert a three-member commission to a five-member council, and transfer executive authority to the county manager.
