PORTLAND — Former Portland Mayor Sam Adams is going to work for a Washington, D.C., environmental group, the World Resources Institute.
The Oregonian reports Adams will work on climate change. The nonprofit says he will lead its work in policy and politics to “encourage the country’s transition to a strong, low-carbon economy.”
Adams served a four-year term as mayor. After he was elected in 2008, Portland was the largest U.S. city with an openly gay mayor, but a sex scandal cost him politically. Shortly after taking office, he admitted lying during the campaign about a relationship with a teenager. He didn’t run for re-election.
Since leaving office, he has been executive director of the City Club of Portland, a nonprofit that holds forums and does research on public issues.
