Clark basketball teams sweep Pierce

WOMEN: Four Clark starters scored in double figures with two having double-doubles in an 84-70 win over visiting Pierce on Monday.

Caylee Newsom had 24 points and 10 assists, and Alexa Orcutt had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Penguins (7-4, 2-1 NWAC West).

Taylor Howlett had 15 points and six assists, and Bryn Tennyson had 17 points, five assists and five rebounds.

“It was a great performance from our starters,” Clark coach Al Aldridge said. “We had a great shooting night. It was really fun.”

MEN: Three of Clark’s starting five reached double figures as the Penguins defeated Pierce 81-64.

Bryan Berg had 26 points on 9 of 12 shooting and five steals, Darrius Mathis scored 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting plus five assists, and Paulo Giacomelli had 10 points. Evan Garrison had six assists.

Clark (9-5, 2-1 NWAC West) scored 16 points off turnovers and shot nearly 55 percent from the field.

The Clark teams travel to Tacoma on Wednesday.
