TUMWATER, Wash. — Jim Unsworth, deputy director of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, was selected Saturday to be the new head of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Unsworth, 57, will earn $146,500 a year. He has spent more than 30 years with the Idaho agency, including serving as deputy director since 2008. Idaho has two deputy directors.

Unsworth held several jobs while at IDFG including wildlife bureau chief and big-game manager. He is an avid hunter and fisherman.

Unsworth is married with four adult children. He has a master’s degree in fish and wildlife management and a doctorate in forestry.

He replaces Phil Anderson, who announced his resignation in August. Anderson has agreed to stay on as head of the Department of Fish and Wildlife until Unsworth is in place.
