Save the Date: Something for everyone to entertain, help out others

It’s a mixed bag of events in January, from concerts to book sales, chocolate to Chinese New Year.

Local fingerstyle guitarists Brooks Robertson and John Standefer will perform, as part of their debut album “We Came to Play,” at 7 tonight at the Washburn Performing Arts Center, 1201 39th St., Washougal. Tickets are $15 to $17. www.johnstandefer.com

The Willamette University Chamber Choir and Willamette Singers
will be giving a free performance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16. The 44-voice ensemble will perform both sacred and secular works, joined by Skyview and Union high schools choirs. The Willamette Singers, a vocal jazz ensemble, was selected by DownBeat Magazine as the best ensemble of its kind in the nation for 2013-2014. More than 25,000 used library books will be on sale during the library foundation’s Bookapalooza, with proceeds supporting the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District’s Summer Reading Program. Racing in the cold can help turn up the heat for others during Race for Warmth, on Feb. 8. The race will benefit Clark Public Utilities’ Operation Warm Heart, which helps families in crisis pay their electric bills.
