CHIEF FIRE OFFICER DESIGNATION

Scott Koehler, fire chief of East County Fire & Rescue, has been named a chief fire officer. The designation was awarded after a review of Koehler’s education, leadership and management skills. He is one of 1,000 chief officers nationwide who have received the designation.

Last year, Koehler was certified by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group as a Type-1 planning section chief for service on nationally rated Incident Management Teams. These teams respond to the largest and most complex incidents handled by emergency responders. Koehler is one of 117 Type-1 chiefs in a national tracking system for IMT qualifications.
