January is the month when area Little Leagues register players for the coming spring-summer season.
Below is a list of scheduled in-person registration opportunities for Little Leagues in Southwest Washington. Most — but not all — Little Leagues now offer online registration.
The league a player may join is determined by where he or she lives. Players who attend school within the boundaries of a different league can instead choose to play in that league.
Interactive maps showing league boundaries can be found on the district and league websites listed below. An interactive online league finder is available at www.littleleaguewa.org/findyourleague.
Each league sets its own fees.
Check league websites for the cost to play in 2015. Leagues usually offer discounts for families with more than one player. Little Leagues offer financial aid for those who need it.
Here is some basic information about Little League programs:
Most Little Leagues offer baseball for boys and softball for girls from T-ball (ages 4-6) through majors (age 12). Some leagues also offer Intermediate League baseball (for players ages 12-13 with 70-foot basepaths), as well as Junior League (ages 13-14), Senior League (ages 15-16) and Big League (ages 17-18) for baseball and softball.
Little League’s best known age level is for ages 11-12. This is the division where teams can advance to the Little League World Series in baseball and softball.
To determine the age division for a player, visit a league website or www.littleleague.org.
Little League is run by volunteers, including all local administrators, coaches and umpires. To sign up, a player’s parent or guardian must supply proof of age and residence or school attendance. A current utility bill is one example of proof of residence.
