The first weekend in January seems to be designated holiday recovery time. You could catch up on the movies you may have missed, or bundle up for a winter adventure on the trail.

o We recently highlighted the bird watching at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge’s River “S” unit, South Hillhurst Road, Ridgefield, with a $3 admission, and the improvements to Whipple Creek Regional Park, 17202 N.W. 21st Ave., that have made its 4.3 miles of multiuse trail more accessible in winter. Lacamas Lake Regional Park is another great option with the easy Heritage trail, a 3.5-mile walking path that follows the lake shore. There’s parking at the trailhead, 3344 N.E. Everett St., Camas, along with an additional 6 miles of hiking and cycling trails, featuring three waterfalls, views of Round Lake and Lacamas Creek. All of the parks are open from 7 a.m. to dusk. www.clark.wa.gov, www.whipplecreekparkrc.org or www.ridgefieldfriends.org

o There’s more to look forward to in January. Union High School will bring a contemporary take to Rogers and Hammerstein’s musical “Cinderella.” The winter theater production will run Jan. 9-10 and Jan. 15-17 at the school’s performing arts complex, 6201 N.W. Friberg Strunk St., Camas. Tickets at the door will be $10, $7 for students and seniors. 360-604-6250, ext. 7466

o Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy will present a musical starring everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear in “Winnie the Pooh.” The production will run Jan. 16-18 at Brunish Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway, Portland. Tickets are $10. 800-273-1530 or www.metropaa.org

o Find wonderful treasures or memories from childhood at the Clark County Antique Show. More than 400 exhibitors and collectors will sell furniture, antique toys, movie memorabilia, estate jewelry and more. For $5 per object, expert evaluators will appraise items. The show runs Jan. 17-18 at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Admissions is $6. www.christinepalmer.net

o Drink This returns to downtown Vancouver on Jan. 24. The event highlights local makers of coffee, beer, soda and more. The self-guided tour features tastings and chats with the local artisans. Updates on participating locations: www.facebook.com/drinkthisvancouver

o Bravo Concerts’ Washington Chamber Orchestra will perform in “Carnival of the Animals” on Jan. 25 at Camas High School, 26900 S.E. 15th St., Camas. The fun music suite written by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns features 14 different movements, each representing a different animal. Tickets are $25. www.bravoconcerts.com

o Local bluegrass bands Fadin’ By 9 and the Misty Mamas will join forces for two concerts highlighting bluegrass, folk, gospel and country music.
