1. First Friday in ‘Downton’
Starting off the new year, downtown Camas will host a mix of games, crafts and cocoa as part of Camas First Friday. From 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 2. downtown businesses along Northeast Fourth Avenue will stay open late. Camas Antiques plans to host a “Downton Abbey” trivia game along with tea, in honor of the show’s fifth season, premiering Jan. 4. The Camas Gallery, 408 N.E. Fourth Ave., will host the artwork of Jayne Siroshton through Jan. 31. Her paintings feature a cast of anthropomorphic animals, each with their own stories. The exhibition “Local Boy Makes Art” by Jonathan Peebles continues through Jan. 31 at the Second Story Gallery, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas. The Camas artist creates whimsical imagery using printmaking, painting and driftwood sculpture. 2. Explore the garden
The Lan Su Chinese Garden will offer nine days of free admission with a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Oregon Food Bank. Traditional Chinese art and folk paintings will be on display, with calligraphy demonstrations on Jan. 3 and Jan. 8-10. In China, the number nine is thought to bring relaxation and ease. The garden features more than 30,000 plant species that cover a city block. Visitors can enjoy free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 3 through 11 at the Chinese garden, 239 N.W.
