Vancouver’s Daniel Seavey performed Wednesday night on “American Idol” with 11 other guys vying to stay in the running.
The 15-year-old Union High School sophomore sang “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz while playing a box mandolin. His mother, Keri, could be seen in the audience at The Fillmore Detroit singing along. This time around, the show introduced Seavey as being from Vancouver rather than Portland, as it had in previous episodes.
“It was a good song for you,” judge Keith Urban said. “It’s interesting hearing your voice tackle that song, you know. Just when I think your range isn’t there, you go up to the really high notes.”
Judge Jennifer Lopez said Seavey needed to work on being consistent through the whole song.
“You are the word ‘beyond adorable.’ I don’t know what that word is, but that’s what you are,” she said. “We want all of it to match together because you’re just too much.”
Judge Harry Connick Jr. said there was a lot of talented performers — Seavey included — from which viewers can choose when casting their votes.
Seavey appeared pleased with the overall positive feedback and, perhaps, flustered by the live audience.
“Oh, my gosh. That was crazy. There were all these girls, and they were saying my name. I was kind of afraid because my mom was up in the stands. … Oh, my gosh,” Seavey said after his performance.
“American Idol” voting ends at 9 a.m. today. For more information, visit www.americanidol.com/vote. Whether Seavey stays or goes will be revealed in next Wednesday’s elimination round.
