Community notebook: Dolezal fastest at Hazel Dell Half Marathon

Eric Dolezal of Vancouver won Sunday’s Hazel Dell Half Marathon, finishing the 13.1 miles in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 48 seconds. The 32-year-old finished six minutes ahead of runner-up Kyle McDonald.

The first woman to finish the half marathon was Mandy Wilson with a time of 1:28:21.

A total of 137 runners completed the half marathon course.

Joe Dudman, 50, of Portland won the 8-kilometer race with a time of 29:32. A total of 100 runners completed the 8-K race.

This was the sixth year for this winter race. This year for the first time it was managed by Energy Events, which stages 21 races including the Vancouver USA Marathon and Half Marathon.

Brian Davis, founder of Energy Events, said that about 1,500 runners from 36 states and several European countries have already registered for the June 21 Vancouver USA Marathon.

• The seventh Fort Vancouver Run will be held at 8 a.m. on Sunday, with the start-finish line at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Runners can choose between 12-kilometer and 5-kilometer courses. Online registration closes today. To learn more visit energyevents.com.

• Results of Saturday’s Lewisville Park 5-kilometer Run are in the Community Sports Scoreboard. The run was staged by the Clark County Running Club.

This Saturday, Feb. 28, the CCRC will host a 3-mile run at the Washington State University Campus. The run is scheduled for 10 a.m. Participants should park in the Gray Lot at the north end of campus. Visit clarkcountyrunningclub.org for more information.

Prairie equestrians win 10 events

The Prairie High School equestrian team had wins in 10 of the 25 events at its second Washington High School Equestrian Teams meet of the season, which took place Friday through Sunday in Spanaway.

Winning individual events for Prairie were Casey Kampe (barrels, breakaway and steer daubing), Alivia Stone (showmanship, hunt seat equitation and dressage), and Beca Thomas (hunt seat over fences). Prairie also had wins in working pairs (Devon LoBato and Kyie Vroman), birangle (Kampe and Vroman) and in freestyle drill.

Vancouver United’s Hannah McDonald won working rancher and reining, and Vancouver United was first in the in-hand obstacle relay (Hailey Anderson, Natasha McDonald, Hannah McDonald and Karissa Oliphant).

Lacrosse season approaching

Vancouver Youth Lacrosse will hold a preseason meeting for parents at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Franklin Elementary School, 5206 Franklin St.

The program offers teams for boys and girls from grades 3-8. Practices start in March with games beginning in April.
