PUYALLUP — Grace Prom made three consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Jamie Phares scored all 13 of her points in the second half Saturday, leading Prairie to a 73-64 victory over Lincoln, claiming third place in the Class 3A bi-district girls basketball tournament.
The Falcons will learn their opponent and location for the state round of 16 when the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association releases the information Sunday.
Prairie went 3-1 in the bi-district tournament. The loss in the bi-district semifinals was a lesson, Phares said.
“It prepared us to be tougher, to play more physically,” Phares said.
The Falcons will need that style going forward to the round of 16. The winner of that game advances to the Tacoma Dome for the final eight teams in the state.
Prairie led by 11 at the half, but Lincoln rallied to take a one-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
Then Prom took over, nailing three consecutive 3-pointers, giving Prairie a 58-50 lead. Prom finished with 17 points.
Phares had two three-point plays in the second half, including one to seal the deal, giving Prairie a nine-point lead with 1:13 to play in the game.
Lindsay Asplund scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half, helping Prairie to the big early lead. Cherita Daugherty added 13 points for the Falcons.
