Mount Hood Meadows officials say the resort plans to operating into May, if conditions allow.

Dave Tragethon, a resort spokesman, said Meadows has received phone calls and emails asking if the ski area is closing early due to the scarcity of snow.

“We have no intention of closing the ski area when we have such ample snowpack, especially on the upper mountain, to continue daily operations, Tragethon said.

The ski area is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays.

Meadows also plans to offer guided snowshoe tours from the top of Vista Express chairlift this season.

Participants will meet at the rental center at 2:30 p.m. to get snowshoes and meet the guides, then trek to the bottom of Vista Express to load on the last chair at 3:30 p.m.

From the top, the descent is along the southern boundary of the resort on Vista Ridge, through Mitchel Creek and back to the lodge. The downhill walk will take about 90 minutes.

Once back, dinner will be provided at Alpenstube Restaurant.

The cost is $60 per person. The routes and potential cancellations will be determined by weather conditions.

The first tour will be Friday. The tours will be offered intermittently. For more information, go online to www.skihood.com.
