Woodland seeks audit of wastewater plant

The city of Woodland is commissioning an independent audit of its wastewater treatment plant after a recent inspection turned up some irregularities in the system.

Mayor Grover Laseke announced the audit last week in a press release, saying he was “very concerned” about what the Department of Ecology found in an inspection of the plant at the end of October. The state took a closer look at the plant after learning about a number of problems with reports filed in August.

Bart Stepp, the city’s public works director, said the situation does not pose any danger to the public.

Laseke hedged his concerned with praise for the plant’s record: it’s received awards for outstanding performance in nine of the past 13 years, he said.

“I believe the operation of the plant has always been top notch and these problems are an isolated incident,” Laseke said.

Veolia Services will conduct the audit. The report will undergo review from the state and a committee of Woodland City Council members and public works officials.
