Two Clark County incidents were among 16 violations that prompted environmental fines of at least $1,000 in the past three months of 2014, according to the state Department of Ecology.
Andrew Colburn was hit with a $2,500 penalty on Dec. 3 as a result of a crash that spilled fuel into a storm drain that led to Fishers Creek in Camas, according to the ecology department. The spill happened when fuel tanks ruptured during a truck collision in February, officials said. Colburn was the driver who caused the collision, according to the ecology department.
Battle Ground-based contractor Tapani Underground was also fined $2,000 on Oct. 1 for failing to adequately protect water quality under the terms of a permit during the construction of a subdivision in Vancouver, according to the ecology department.
In all, the state issued $113,280 in penalties of $1,000 or more from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. The largest of those, $47,330, went to painting contractor for hazardous waste violations in King County. The fine was reduced from $71,000 after a settlement, according to the ecology department.
