Playing for the last time in their home gym, the Beavers rode a second-quarter surge to the win in the first round of the Cass 2A District 4 Tournament.

Three Woodland players scored in double figures as the Beavers (17-5) advanced to the district semifinals. They will take on Tumwater on Tuesday in either Chehalis or Centralia.

Tanner Sixberry came off the bench to spark the second-quarter run with six points. Despite some foul trouble, the Beavers limited the Tigers to one field goal in the second quarter and outscored Centralia 17-6 in the period to lead by 16 points at halftime.

Troy Flanagan had 14 points and six assists and Ryan Sturdivan had 12 points and seven assists for the Beavers, who turned solid defense into transition offense to build the lead.

Centralia hit four 3-pointers to pull within nine points in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers got no closer.

Bryce Mulder grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for Woodland. Sixberry hit five of his six shots to finish with 10 points.

Woodland is opening a new high school in the fall, so Saturday’s game was the last in a gym that opened during the 1955-56 school year.
