A Vancouver man appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Friday on suspicion of kidnapping a couple whom he suspected of taking his cellphone.

Trevor L. Knowles, 25, of Vancouver is accused of confronting Braydon King and Tahara Widdoes in the area of 10006 S.E. Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver and accusing them of stealing his cellphone while they were together at a mutual friend’s house.

During the confrontation, Knowles allegedly wrestled King to the ground, held a knife to King’s throat and threatened to kill King. Both King and Widdoes denied taking the phone.

Knowles then forced the couple into a vehicle and transported them to the residence where Knowles lost his cellphone, according to court papers. At the residence, Knowles continued to make threats against them and their families, court papers say.

King offered his own cellphone to Knowles in order to convince Knowles to release him and Widdoes, Martin wrote.

The couple identified Knowles in a photomontage as the man who kidnapped and threatened them with the knife, Martin wrote.

Judge Robert Lewis held Knowles in the Clark County Jail in lieu of $80,000 and appointed Vancouver attorney Susan Stauffer to defend him. He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 24 on charges of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree kidnapping and harassment death threats.
