Poor free-throw shooting down the stretch thwarted a solid defensive effort by the Falcons in a Class 3A bi-district tournament first-round game.

Prairie will face Sumner on Saturday at Clover Park in the first of three loser-out games the Falcons must win to reach state.

“We were up by four points with a couple of minutes to go, but we missed three front ends of 1-and-1s that would have given us a more comfortable lead and helped us seal the win.”

The only lead Kennedy had all game was at the end — 46-45.

“The kids did great job defensively,” Brooks said. “We held them to a season low. … We had a great game plan. But the lesson learned here is that you’ve got to make your free throws at the end of the game.”

Greg Bernash had 11 points to pace the Falcons.
