Save the Date: Stay entertained with races, plays, writers and red carpet

Share the warmth with a brisk Sunday run. The Race for Warmth benefits Operation Warm Heart, which helps families in crisis pay their electric bills. The race features a free kids run starting at 8:30 a.m. Day of registration opens at 7 a.m., with 10K and 5K routes beginning from Clark Public Utilities, 1200 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Vancouver’s roller derby team, the Storm City Roller Girls, will battle the Rainy City Roller Dolls from Centralia in the season opener. The competition begins at 6 p.m. today at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Skyview High School Drama Club presents the Greek tragedy “Oedipus Rex (Oedipus the King).” Oedipus, in becoming the king of Thebes, unwittingly fulfils the prophecy that he would kill his father and marry his mother. Prairie High School Drama presents two plays by Irish playwright John Millington Synge, one-act tragedy “Riders to the Sea” and “The Playboy of the Western World.” A young man on the run tells the locals at an Irish pub that he killed his father. Thanks to his storytelling, the townsfolk praise his boldness, while the bartender’s daughter falls in love … until his not-dead father appears. The Battle Ground Drama Club tackles “Crimes of the Heart,” as the three Magrath sisters — Meg, Babe and Lenny — reunite in their old family home after Babe shoots her abusive husband. Hazel Dell Half Marathon and 8K is Feb. 22. It takes off from the Hazel Dell Town Center, 9301 N.E. Fifth Ave., Vancouver. This is the sixth year of this local race that travels through Hazel Dell, Felida and along Salmon Creek. Proceeds are shared with Panda Paws Rescue. Journey Theater will present Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Jr.” The tale follows five lucky recipients of golden tickets as they tour the famous Wonka factory with its mysterious manufacturer. The third annual Vancouver Goes Hollywood offers the chance to walk the red carpet to the Academy Awards’ televised screening. Kiggins Theatre will host the Oscar broadcast.
