A landslide this morning temporarily shut down the BNSF Railway main line in the Felida area, impacting both freight and passenger service near Vancouver, according to the company.
The slide happened just after 7 a.m. today, blocking both sides of the double track, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas. Crews responded and cleared mud and debris on one side by about 10 a.m., and expected to have the other track clear by noon, he said.
Eight freight trains were affected, along with passenger trains that use the corridor. That includes Amtrak’s Cascades line that runs between Vancouver and Seattle and other locations.
Freight traffic was able to resume after the tracks were cleared, Melonas said. But passenger service will remain suspended for 48 hours, or until Monday morning, he said, which is standard protocol.
