A series of storms is expected to drench Clark County and much of the West Coast this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Portland. Low-elevation areas including Vancouver could see up to 1.5 inches of rain by Monday, with the surrounding hills registering even higher totals, forecasters said.
No flood watches or warnings were in effect as of Friday afternoon. That’s because expected breaks in the rain should be enough to keep area rivers within their banks. But locations across Clark County on Friday had already recorded more than an inch of rain during the previous 48 hours, according to the weather service.
This weekend’s storms aren’t expected to offer much to boost languishing snowpacks across the Northwest. The systems will tap into subtropical moisture and bring relatively warm temperatures, according to the weather service. The Lower Columbia basin of Southwest Washington had just 20 percent of its normal snowpack for this time of year as of Friday, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
