Washougal — After 42 years as an educator, Hathaway Elementary School Principal Laura Bolt announced she will retire at the end of the current school year.
She was hired as Hathaway’s principal in 2003, after previously working for the Tahoma, Battle Ground and Vancouver school districts, and teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Vancouver for one year.
In a press release sent out by the Washougal School District, Bolt was praised for her caring nature as a principal, working closely with faculty, students and family.
“Her caring manifests itself in so many practical ways, from opening hundreds of milk cartons each day to working with a desperate mother to help her find the resources needed so her child can be successful in class the next day,” said Washougal School District Superintendent Dawn Tarzian.
In her retirement, Bolt is looking forward to spending more time with her husband of 40 years and their grandchildren, as well as playing some pickleball.
