Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

• City of Vancouver 50+ Travel Program is looking for travel planners to plan and lead two to three day trips per month, including weekends. Volunteers must be 50 or older.

• Clark County Food Bank seeks assistants for the Cooking Matters program. Help facilitate classes, translate for non-English speaking participants and conduct cooking demonstrations.

• Hospice Southwest seeks office volunteers to provide assistance on projects, and serve as bereavement phone volunteers and patient care assistants. Volunteers also provide respite to caregivers of hospice patients, palliative care phone support to families and work as group support facilitators at hospice Stepping Stones.

• School of Piano Technology for the Blind seeks student mentors to help first-year students transition from their home states to the Vancouver area. Drivers and substitute drivers are also needed to drive blind tuner technicians to appointments.

• Share seeks volunteers to work with staff and residents as they prepare and serve meals. Individuals and groups are welcome.

Volunteers are sought for tree plantings at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge River S Unit from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 11, 21 and 25. Volunteers are encouraged to wear waterproof footwear, bring gloves and dress for the weather. Hot drinks and snacks will be provided. Registration is encouraged but not required. Volunteers must sign a volunteer service agreement (if younger than 18, it must be signed by a parent or guardian) found at www.fws.gov/ridgefieldrefuges/ridgefield/getinvolved.html. Clark County councilors seek to fill a seat on the Clark County Board of Equalization for a term beginning immediately and ending in July 2018. The board provides an impartial resident forum in which property owners can resolve issues of assessed valuation and exemptions. Members are paid $75 per day while attending meetings. Meetings usually are Tuesday through Thursday during regular business hours as needed. Applicants should have knowledge of real and personal property, Clark County, property appraisal techniques and property tax law. Experience or education in the building trades also is helpful. Clark Public Utilities seeks volunteers to monitor water quality as part of the StreamTeam program from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Volunteers may enter the stream and bring waders, if available. Training, snacks and other supplies will be provided. Participants 16 and older are welcome, or 12 and older if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
