If there is chaos to be had below No. 1-ranked Mark Morris in 2A Greater St. Helens League, just look to the Hockinson girls basketball team.
The Hawks rallied in the second half, and thanks to some solid defense, defeated visiting Washougal 37-31 on Monday.
Washougal (13-4, 7-3 2A GSHL) drops into a two-way tie for second place with Woodland, while Hockinson (10-8, 6-4) sits one game back in fourth.
After trailing by 10 after the first quarter, Hockinson came back to hold Washougal to just one point in the second quarter. The Hawks trailed at halftime 17-12.
“We made some defensive adjustments after that first quarter and did a better job,” second year Hockinson coach Damon Roche said. “Tonight’s win was a team defensive effort.”
Kaylee Harteloo came off the bench in the third quarter to score the game-tying and go-ahead baskets for the Hawks.
“She gave us the energy boost we needed,” Roche said.
Elle Tilkin had 15 rebounds and six points for Hockinson, and Hannah Neibauer had six points, five rebounds and four steals.
Washougal was led in scoring by RaeAnn Allen’s 13 points and Alyssa Blankenship’s 10.
