NEW ORLEANS — Attorneys for BP are urging a federal appeals court to remove the man responsible for handing out settlement money from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
BP lawyers told the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday that Patrick Juneau failed to disclose that he had done oil spill legal work for the state of Louisiana before he was hired to oversee settlement payments. The payments have gone to businesses affected by the nation’s worst offshore oil spill.
BP has had numerous complaints about Juneau’s interpretation of the multi-billion dollar settlement it agreed to in 2012.
Attorneys for Juneau say he hid nothing and his record was public well before BP and others agreed to his hiring.
The judges did not say when they would rule.
