Battle Ground — Battle Ground High School is celebrating its 75th year of accreditation, and was the only school in Washington state to earn the designation this year.

The school is accredited by AdvancED, a national nonprofit organization that conducts on-site external reviews.

The state does not require schools to be accredited, and about 400 of the nearly 3,000 public, private and charter schools in Washington are accredited, Liselotte Thompson, director of the Washington office of AdvancED, said in a release from the district.

“It’s a national standard of excellence,” Battle Ground High School Principal Mike Hamilton said in the same release. “To have outside experts come in and review every facet of your school’s operations and then provide feedback on the great things you are doing and recommendations for improvement is an important, healthy way to grow as an organization and a school.”
