Walnut Grove — Furry Friends volunteers Tanika and Mike Campbell started a pet food drive holiday season back in 2012, with the food going to the Vancouver-based no-kill cat shelter and Second Chance Companions, a no-kill Battle Ground based shelter for cats and dogs.

Their haul this year for Furry Friends included 420 pounds of dry food, 372 cans of wet food and 425 pounds of litter. They also donated 120 pounds of bird seed, as “the kitties like watching the birds outside their window.” Diane Stevens, a Furry Friends executive committee member, wrote in an email.

For cats at Second Chance, the Campbells collected 330 cans of wet food, 215 pounds of dry food, 350 pounds of litter, 50 meal mixers, treats and a litter box.

For dogs, they collected 729 pounds of dry food, 55 cans of wet food, 50 pounds of puppy food, 23 boxes of treats, 20 blankets, 20 balls and other toys and 50 meal mixers.
