Virgil Green hoped to knock Miguel Cruz from the ranks of the unbeaten on Tuesday. But it was the Vancouver boxer who was knocked out.
Cruz stopped Green midway through the seventh round of the eight-round 147-pound welterweight bout in Bethlehem, Pa.
The bout was nationally televised on FS1 as an undercard to the Omar Douglas vs. Frank De Alba Premier Boxing Champions fight.
Cruz improved to 12-0 with 11 knockouts. Green fell to 11-5 with three knockouts.
Cruz landed a combination in the fourth round that had Green staggering backward.
Green was knocked down with a left hook early in the seventh round.
That left him dazed and the fight was over less than a minute later. The referee stepped between the fighters after Cruz landed three successive jabs to Green’s face.
