Firefighters on Tuesday night kept a blaze that burned in an under-construction duplex from spreading to a nearby occupied east Vancouver home.

The structure fire at 10918 N.E. 44th St. was reported at about 7:15 p.m.

Arriving firefighters found the duplex engulfed in flames, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. Radio traffic also indicated that firefighters worked to prevent the fire from reaching a home behind the burning duplex.

The fire had died down by around 7:45 p.m., and firefighters were starting mop-up work, according to radio traffic.

A call to the Vancouver Fire Department on Tuesday night was not returned.
