Lexi Burney scored 17 points and Ahna Burney added 12 as Evergreen won its opening game as the host of the Hoops on the Holiday Tournament.

The Plainsmen (4-5) led from start to finish, but had trouble putting the Senators away.

Both Burneys scored four points each in an 11-3 run late in the third quarter to give Evergreen a 39-28 lead.

But the Plainsmen’s lead was cut back to 41-40 right after Ahna Burney fouled out midway through the fourth quarter.

Lexi Burney made a key three-point play to give the Plainsmen a 44-40 lead.

After Madison cut it to 44-42, Evergreen scored the final five points of the game to seal the win.
