More than 900 first responders in Washington have received training this year from BNSF Railway on how to respond to hazardous materials spills, according to the railroad.
Some training was held regionally, and some was at a national railroad safety training facility in Colorado. Firefighters from Vancouver and Camas were among 91 Washington firefighters to receive the training this year. Part of the training focuses on a new secure mobile application that allows responders to find out quickly what is in a tank car.
BNSF is a major employer in Clark County, and its regional hazmat manager is based here.
