A fire in a Sifton neighborhood duplex that displaced six people was caused by unattended cooking, Clark County Assistant Fire Marshal Richard Martin said.

Firefighters were called to the 6900 block of Northeast 124th Avenue at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, according to dispatch records.

Crews doused the blaze, which caused an estimated $8,000 in damage to the structure and its contents, Martin said.

The American Red Cross provided assistance for temporary lodging, as well as assistance with immediate needs of one adult and five children, according to the organization.
