When Greg Bernash left the game with a sore knee, the bench stepped up for the Prairie boys basketball team.

Matthew Kogler came off the bench to score nine points and secure a key offensive rebound late to help Prairie beat Post Falls, Idaho, 59-55 for third place at the Curtis Winter Classic in University Place.

Bernash, who scored 31 points in Friday’s win, was limited to four points Saturday before sitting out the second half. He still earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Palmer Goecke led the Falcons with 16 points, including a big 3-pointer in transition with two minutes to go to give the Falcons some needed breathing room.

The Falcons connected on 8 of 11 free throws in the final period to secure the win.
