A fourth-quarter rally by the host Hawks came up just short in the 2A Greater St. Helens League game.

After a steal and a timeout with 8 seconds to play, Hockinson had two good looks but neither shot dropped.

“We had great looks. We did exactly what we needed to do,” Hockinson coach Manny Melo said, noting that a put-back chance was on the rim and fell off as the horn sounded.

Louden Wardius scored 19 points to pace Ridgefield (4-2, 1-1), which led by seven points at the end of three quarters.

“Both teams had to fight through adversity,” Melo said. “We were one inch away from winning the game.”

Ry Paulson scored a game-high 20 points and shot 62 percent for the Hawks (3-4, 0-2). Logan Klodt added 13 points and Kinai Kiyokawa 11.
