Investigators are following up on what they say was an intentionally set porch fire at a house in Vancouver’s Rose Village neighborhood.
Firefighters responded to 3307 U St. at about 7:15 a.m. Thursday for a report of a structure fire, but the first crews arrived and found that the fire had been put out and a small rug was smoldering on the porch, Capt. Scott Willis said. A gas can was nearby, he said.
Vancouver police also responded and learned that someone known to the victim set fire to the porch, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.
Officers were unable to locate the person, but Kapp said police are working with the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office, who are members of the regional arson investigation team, to follow up.
