Steven Webb, superintendent at Vancouver Public Schools, has been named one of four finalists for the 2016 National Superintendent of the Year. The announcement was made Tuesday by the American Association of School Administrators.
Last month, Webb was selected as the Superintendent of the Year by the Washington Association of School Administrators. He was selected for leading the district’s improvements, including increasing the on-time graduation rate, increasing program choice and expanding school-community partnerships to meet the needs of students living in poverty.
The national panel’s final decision, based on written applications and letters of recommendations, will be announced in February at the AASA conference in Phoenix. The other finalists are from school districts in North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. To learn more about the AASA award, visit www.aasa.org.
About 23,500 students are enrolled in the Vancouver district, the second-largest in Clark County. Webb has been the district’s superintendent since 2008.
