The Beavers used defense and rebounding to overcome a cold shooting night and win their 2A Greater St. Helens League opener.

Kayla Fredericks, Grace Adams and freshman Audrey Adams paced Woodland (1-1, 1-0) with nine points each. Woodland made 15 of 79 shots from the field.

“It was our second game, and we played like it was our second game,” Woodland coach Glen Flanagan said.

Fredericks also had 10 rebounds as did Dana Glovick. Amber Malick had 13 rebounds and six steals. Adams added five steals and Jessica Flanagan had six assists.

“We knew they could hit 3s, so we wanted to contest every outside shot,” Flanagan said. “They hit their first one of the game, and didn’t hit another the rest of the game, so that was a big key for us.”

The Beavers also forced 30 turnovers from the Spudders.
